As a congregation we want to grow both wider and deeper, meaning we want to grow numerically, but just as important, we want to grow deeper in our understanding and experience of God’s grace and love. To that end, we offer a number of classes and small groups for people to deepen their understanding of God through God’s Holy Word.

Join Heidi as she shares about the trip to Scotland and Iceland she took earlier this year with the seminary. She will share what she learned about the history and spirituality of these countries, as well as how she experienced the movement of the Holy Spirit through the thin places found throughout their rugged landscapes.

Luther’s Small Catechism from an African Descent Perspective
Beginning October 4, Pastor John will lead a Sunday morning class exploring Luther’s Small Catechism. The class will meet at 9:15 am each Sunday in the Upper Room.

Books are available for purchase in the Narthex for $10 each.
At its heart, the Small Catechism offers a wonderfully simple and accessible way to explore the foundations of the Christian faith: the Ten Commandments, the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Sacraments, and more. Again and again, Luther asks the question, “What does this mean?”—inviting us not simply to memorize the faith, but to understand how it speaks to our lives.
This fall we’ll be looking at the Catechism through a new lens. The book we’ll be using includes reflections from a distinguished group of Lutheran theologians of African descent. Their brief commentaries bring additional perspectives, context, and insight to Luther’s words, helping us see the Catechism in fresh ways and inviting us to deeper understanding and a more vibrant faith.

Fellowship Hour

Sunday mornings following worship, we gather in the Fellowship Hall for a time of fellowship and food.

Tuesday Morning Men’s Breakfast

Men’s Breakfast – At 7:00 am on Tuesdays at the Pancake Haus in Edmonds, Pastor John will be leading a weekly gathering of men.  The time will include breakfast and a light bible study of the gospel reading for the upcoming Sunday. Wednesday Morning – Word of Life

Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am during our program year, Pastor John offers a class entitled Word of Life. This is a class that looks deeply at the upcoming Sunday’s worship texts. The class is participatory and is a place where faith seeks understanding. Class meets in the church library.

Wednesday Evening – Women’s Bible Study

Between the Lines & Between the Women—a Bible Study for Women, about Women

Wednesdays, October 7 – November 18. 6:00-6:30 pm: Dinner; 6:30-7:30 pm: Bible Study
Relationships between women are complicated. They can be both lovely and difficult at the same time. Heidi invites all women to join her Wednesday evenings, October 7 – November 18 as we explore the relationships between women in scripture. We’ll look at the stories of Sarah and Hagar, Rachel and Leah, Ruth and Naomi, Mary and Elizabeth, Mary and Martha, and the women at the tomb. Bring your Bible and your curiosity as we explore these familiar stories in new ways and consider what the women of Scripture might teach us about friendship, family, conflict, loyalty, and the relationships in our own lives.

Other Activities

  • InAsMuch Quilters – The InAsMuch Quilting Ministry meets every Tuesday morning from 9:00 am -12:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. The group crafts quilts to distribute through Lutheran World Relief. No sewing experience is required. There is a refreshment and fellowship break at 10:00 am, so please come join in!
  • The FLRB Writers Group – Meets the first and third Thursday each month at 11:30 am in the church library. Bring a sandwich and a beverage and join in.  We begin reading our work about noon.  Visitors are always welcome. Please check with the church office to be connected with leaders.
  • KnitWitz (Prayer Shawl knitters) – The mission of this group is to share God’s love, peace, and comfort through the gift of a handknit prayer shawl. Prayer shawls are located in the prayer chapel and are available to anyone who knows of someone who could be encouraged and reminded of God’s love through a difficult time in their life.
    • Knit-Witz meets on the third Friday of each month from 1-3pm—usually in the church library.  Yarn, needles, and instructions will be provided.  We’d love to have YOU there!
